Figgy Porridge

This is a super easy breakfast that will help to keep your insides healthy and your skin glowing.

One question I get asked a lot is ‘are oats gluten-free?’. The answer is yes. However, they are often packaged in factories that handle other grains, including wheat, barley and rye. This has the potential to create cross-contamination and can be an issue for those with gluten allergies.

If you know you’re intolerant to gluten, or you’re on an elimination diet, you may prefer to buy oats that are certified as gluten-free.

Both oats and figs are naturally high in fibre. They’re also prebiotic, meaning they help to feed the good bacteria already resident in your gut. Strengthening your gut, and keeping your digestive system working as it should, are key to helping your skin to heal from the inside out.

As if that wasn’t enough, figs are a good source of skin-loving vitamins A and E and they’re rich in minerals including calcium and magnesium.

Many people with skin issues, particularly with acne, find that dairy is a big trigger for them. Figs are great to add to your diet if you’re dairy-free and need alternative sources of these important minerals.

Adding a sprinkling of pumpkin seeds boosts the skin-loving quality of this breakfast even further by giving you an extra shot of vitamins, minerals, protein and healthy fat.
